Smith & Sutton Land Full-Time Rides With TRICON For 2027
TALLADEGA, Ala. (Oct. 23, 2026) – TRICON Garage announced Friday morning at Talladega Superspeedway that the organization has signed Sammy Smith and Dawson Sutton to its full-time driver roster for the 2027 NASCAR FedEx Freight Truck Series season.
Smith, who has spent the past four seasons competing full-time in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, will take over the No. 15 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and contest his first full Truck Series schedule.
The 22-year-old driver brings a wealth of experience to TRICON, having earned three wins, 29 top-fives and 65 top-10s in O’Reilly Auto Parts Series competition, along with two top-fives and six top-10s in just 10 career Truck starts.
Sutton is set to take over the reins of the No. 5 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for his second full Truck Series campaign. He joins TRICON from his family-owned team, Rackley W.A.R., where he has competed in 52 Truck Series events over the past three seasons.
In addition to his NASCAR résumé, the 20-year-old has found considerable success in grassroots divisions, capturing the 2024 Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway pro late model championship while earning high profile victories in the 2025 All American 400 and Glass City 200.
“We are excited to welcome Dawson and Sammy to the TRICON family for 2027 and are confident they’ll be great additions for our program,” said Kevin Ray, partner and general manager of TRICON Garage. “Sammy’s experience and prior success, combined with Dawson’s ability and growth as a driver, give us a lot to look forward to. We are confident in the lineup we have assembled and look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.”
With the announcement of Smith and Sutton, TRICON has solidified its full-time lineup for next season. The pair will join Kaden Honeycutt and Gio Ruggiero who were confirmed earlier this week as returning drivers for the Nos. 11 and 17 entries, respectively.
The No. 1 Tundra will continue to feature a rotation of drivers.
Further details regarding crew chief pairings and team partnerships will be announced at a later date.
