OSWEGO, N.Y. -- What happened at Oswego Speedway Saturday night was everything that's great about short track racing.

Darren Smith came from 16th to first in five laps, made a last-lap pass to win $54,000, and earned his first career Super DIRTcar Series victory in one of the sport's biggest events.

But what impressed me just as much was the event itself.

World Racing Group, Oswego Speedway and the city of Oswego have developed Super DIRT Week into something much bigger than a weekend of racing. Downtown activities, camping, community involvement and quality streaming coverage all contribute to an event that draws people into the sport and the community.

That's something every promoter should be paying attention to.
