Insude Groove Show #206: Remembering Three Legends

This week’s Inside Groove is a different kind of show.

Three racers with deep roots in the sport passed away within days of one another, and Episode 206 is devoted largely to remembering Gordon Johncock, Jim Shirey and Dick Kluth.

Jacob Seelman joins Tom Baker to remember Shirey, one of the familiar names in Midwest supermodified racing and a driver whose career included the 1994 Hy-Miler Nationals victory at Sandusky Speedway. The conversation also turns to the Shirey family’s long connection to the sport and the racing legacy Jim left behind.

Tom then looks back on Dick Kluth, a Western New York Modified racer whose career stretched across more than five decades, and Gordon Johncock, whose path from Michigan short tracks and supermodified racing eventually carried him to two Indianapolis 500 victories.

The show closes on a lighter note with a couple of classic Bentley Warren stories from Wicked Fast: Racing Through Life with Bentley Warren.
