Moon, Weiss and Beattie Score Double Wins On Day One Of Winter Showdown At Auburndale
WINTER HAVEN, FL – February 8, 2024 -- The 2nd Annual Winter Showdown at Auburndale Speedway in Winter Haven, Florida got underway with blue skies and sunshine. The legend cars and bandoleros were the featured division on day one, along with a night-time open practice for all divisions racing this week on the ¼-mile track.
T.J. Moon, Joseph Weiss, and Karter Beattie each won two races on Wednesday, with Jackson Denton and Tyler Ledbetter splitting the Legend Car feature events.
Moon’s two wins both came in Bandolero action. He had to hold off a strong running James Faulkner, who had his No.007 rolling. The 11-year-old Faulkner threw everything he had at Moon, but Moon was up to the challenge and ended up with both wins, while Faulkner had two runner-up finishes to start the week.
In the Beginner Bandoleros, Joseph Weiss swept the two feature events, with Maverick Bradshaw and Addison Veinotle swapping second and third place finishes. Kylea Beattie suffered a hard hit into the wall in race one, and heavy damage was inflicted. Thankfully, she was uninjured.
Tyler Ledbetter, Wyatt Philyaw and Jackson Denton put on some exciting racing in the first of the two legend car races, with Denton taking the lead and holding off Ledbetter at the finish. The win was Denton’s first as a Pro.
In race two, Denton appeared to be on his way to a win after a spirited battle with Ayrton Brockhouse, but an incident in turn three saw the two cars get together, and the resulting yellow flag saw both racers put to the back of the field. The door was open for Ledbetter to collect his first win of the week, and he made it pay off as he held off Jake Baker and Rose Borntreger to take the flag.
The Rookie/Young Lion Legend Car features saw 11-year-old Karter Beattie score the victory in both events, but Caden Tuffts made him work for it each time. Tuffts wound up with two second-place finishes while Spencer Bradshaw and Matthew Laprade each finished third once.
The action continues Thursday, February 8, with legend cars and bandoleros running a full program of qualifying and features during the afternoon, then joining the Mighty TQ-Midgets and the 602 Modifieds for the evening program. Round 3 of racing for the legend cars and Bandoleros begins at 11:30 am, with features going off at 3 pm. Afternoon practice for all evening classes will follow, with qualifying set to start at 5:50 pm and the night features at 7 pm.
Fans and teams attending this week’s racing at Auburndale are encouraged to download the TrackTune app for their device so they will be able to plug a set of protective earpieces (available at the TrackTune booth in the pit area) into their device and hear the PA system all week long even during the racing.
Grandstands open at 3 pm for the Thursday night action. If you cannot be at the track, a PPV livestream will show all feature action throughout the week and is available at SeriesShowdown.com.
