MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Story by Tom Baker/Team SWN -- FloRacing Photo -- Trevor Ward's family had been trying for 30 years to win a grandfather clock at Martinsville Speedway.  On Sunday, Trevor did what neither his older brother or his father had been able to and secured that clock with a thrilling victory in the Valley Star Credit Union 300 for NASCAR late model stock cars. 

Ward also picked up the $32,000 top prize for his efforts, and added $7,000 more for being the highest average finisher in the Virginia Triple Crown Series, which also comprises races at South Boston Speedway and Larry King Law's Langley Speedway.  Ward's victory was one for the ages, as he had to pass Carson Kvapil and then hold off a furious charge from Landon Huffman to take the flag. 

Over 80 late models attempted to qualify for the biggest race on their calendar.  In the end, it was Kvapil leading much of the latter portion of the event until Peyton Sellers, Ward and Huffman got by him and then Ward and Huffman swapped the lead and put on a raging duel that lasted right to the final laps, with the pair banging wheels and providing the fans with a finish to remember in a race that was postponed one day due to rain.
